Feeding the players at the WBO

As I’m sure you all know, the Ricoh Women’s British Open was played on the Old Course last week and the St Andrews Links Clubhouse had the exciting challenge of feeding the players.

Nutrition

Obviously it’s vital that all of the competitors get the nutrition and energy they need to perform at the highest level and that is certainly not something that has been overlooked by the Links food and beverage department.

The catering we provided for the world’s top female golfers was served in a buffet and we made sure that there was a wide range of healthy, nutritious options available.

Some of the buffet options available to the players

To provide slow-release energy there was an abundance of complex carbohydrates like Thai chicken curry with boiled rice and sweet potato and red onion salad.

To provide important proteins we had dishes like Scottish seafood pie served with cheese mash and French style peas or eggs, bacon and cold meats available at breakfast time.

And finally, there are a few much-loved sweet treats on offer including lemon cheesecake and fresh, soft fruits with cream which on a day like Sunday, when the player’s had to play two rounds in one day, provided them with enough calories to sustain 36 holes of golf!

I’m glad to say that our food went down a storm with the players and a big congratulations to Stacy Lewis on sealing her second major title.
