Creative talent in focus: Linda Hartough

In the final instalment of our creative talent series, we are showcasing renowned golf artist; Linda Hartough.

Linda is widely recognised as a leading golf artist having focused her skills as a landscape painter to recreate some of the world’s most beautiful golf holes and courses. Through an extraordinary attention to detail, her oil paintings come alive with amazing clarity.

The company, ‘Art 4 Golfers’, who publish and distribute a comprehensive portfolio of fine art golf prints and greeting cards, supply our shops with a selection of Linda’s images, which are exclusive to St Andrews Links.

Her work has gained her international fame and she is the only artist ever commissioned by the United States Golf Association and the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews to do the annual official paintings and prints for both The Open and US Open. After her first golf painting was commissioned at Augusta Golf Club in 1984 and the enormous response to her work at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando in 1988, she went on to focus her career entirely on golf landscapes.

Linda’s approach to capturing a great golf hole is by spending a week or more at each course, taking photographs at different times of the day to capture all possible lights. From there, she figures out what is important and memorable in each view, making sure this is included in the painting. The detail in the images is produced from a recipe based on the pictures she has taken and her memory of scouting the landscape and the results are unique pieces of art.

Linda’s artwork is available to purchase online and in our stores.
