Junior Open 2015

2015 has been an amazing year for SALJGA with highlights including the 144th Open Championship, a jam-packed schedule of competitions and coaching programmes, visits to Gleneagles and Wentworth and the small matter of meeting Tiger Woods! Phew, it’s been busy!

It was long overdue that we got everyone together to celebrate the year we’ve had and recognise how well the junior golfers have developed. Last month we hosted the 2015 SALJGA Junior Open.

There were five separate competitions happening across three different St Andrews Links courses with a total of over 65 competitors throughout the field, all aged between 5 and 18 years old. The day began bright and early on the Eden Couse and finished on the nine hole Balgove Course under glorious afternoon sunshine.

There was some great golf on display from our juniors and the low scoring very much reflected that. All of the adults and volunteers involved on the day were seriously impressed with the standard of play.

The day concluded with a delicious barbeque and a small prize giving presentation.

SALJGA is a fantastic programme that we are so proud of here at the Links. Designed to attract more local youngsters to the game of golf SALJGA has welcomed more than 2000 young players, who have benefitted from tuition and competition. SALJGA members have been national champions and have even participated in the Dunhill Links Championship.

The success of a programme like SALJGA relies heavily upon help and support from volunteers and without this the programme would not be possible. I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate our huge thanks to our volunteers for their continued efforts.

Here’s hoping next year is just as eventful…
