Looking back and looking forward

The Masters

Is that not just the best picture? Adam Scott celebrating his birdie putt on the 18th of Augusta, which of course is all the more sweet after the huge disappointment of last July when he narrowly lost out on The Open. That’s what hard work looks like. That’s what determination looks like. That’s what will inspire thousands all around the world.

I love this picture so much, but my favourite part of the picture is a little out of focus in the background; Scott’s playing partner for the day, Marc Leishman. Look at his reaction - genuine happiness for his fellow competitor and enjoying a truly special moment. Okay, he’s probably known Scotty for a while; they’re both Australian and of a similar age. Their paths will have crossed many times. But let’s also not forget that these guys are competitors at the highest level, and to show this kind of reaction is awesome.

What a great game we all play, that breeds this kind of respect and behaviour from one another. It just confirms my belief that golf is a sport unlike any other.

It probably wasn’t the most spectacular Masters ever, but thanks so much to Scott and Cabrera for delivering a blistering final hours of viewing, wow! I just love Cabrera’s style and outlook, quick look at the yardage book, couple waggles and then bang! Impressive!

My top tips

The Golf Academy has been busy over the last couple of weeks, and everyone has been enjoying working in the newly refurbished Academy building. It looks great!

The Academy has some great lesson plans at this time of year to get your game in shape for the season ahead. And this brings me to my top tips for the upcoming season:

  1. Check your equipment. Get measured and adjusted for any changes in loft and lies. Get a new set of grips if yours are worn. The effect of this can be huge!
  2. Set some targets for the coming season; don’t be afraid to aim high.
  3. Remember your attitude – let’s stay positive!
  4. Hit the range – if it’s been a while since you last played, come and hit a couple of buckets to get your timing back.
