Creative talent in focus: Kevin Murray

St Andrews Links is blessed with some of the most amazing views. Over the years, the Old Course in particular has provided a range of the most iconic images in golf photography and are recognised the world over.

We use a range of media and work with some of the best photographers and artists to showcase the Links and its natural beauty. Over the coming weeks, we will be doing a short feature on three of the creative talents we work with, beginning our trilogy with the Links official photographer, Kevin Murray.

Kevin’s background is in advertising, starting as a Junior Art Director and progressing to co-own an agency in Brighton. One of the accounts that Kevin’s agency managed was Callaway, an official partner of St Andrews Links. By combining his creative side and his love for golf, Kevin created campaigns for the iconic products produced by Callaway. It was through this relationship with them that Kevin was introduced to the Links.

Back then, Kevin believed golf course photography had so much more potential and wasn’t being captured in the best light that it could. Borrowing a camera, Kevin took a visually striking shot of a local course and replaced one of the visuals used in a presentation of his to Callaway. This in fact was for a co-branded product between St Andrews Links and Callaway.

Callaway contacted Kevin enquiring who the photographer was. Kevin explained it was himself and three days later he met with St Andrews Links Commercial Director, Danny Campbell who was intrigued by the image, and asked if Kevin could shoot all the courses managed by the Links.

The rest as they say is history! Kevin became the first official photographer for The Home of Golf three years ago and will tell you he wears the badge with pride, which is reflected in his work.

Kevin’s prints are available to purchase online and in our stores.
