World Golf Awards 2017

I recently spent a fantastic few days attending the 2017 World Golf Awards on behalf of the Links at La Manga Club Resort in Spain. Before the gala dinner and ceremony got underway there was the opportunity to play some golf and network with fellow attendees.

Day 1 of the trip, I played the West Course at La Manga in great conditions and in equally great company with colleagues from Ireland, Argentina and Tunisia, who were also in line for an award or two.

The ‘World Golf Awards Classic’ was lined up for day 2 which was held on the South Course, previous host to the Spanish Open during the 70’s. This was a super golf course with plenty of water to negotiate, so plenty of golf balls were required!

Saturday night was the big evening. The gala dinner and ceremony were in full swing and all winners were revealed. Our hosts for the night were Steve Ryder & Ela Clark.

We would just have to wait and see if we were successful!

The Old Course had been nominated in three categories. Our first opportunity was for ‘Scotland’s Best Golf Course’ which we duly won…

The next categories up for us were ‘Europe’s Best Golf Course’ and the top accolade of ‘World’s Best Golf Course’. I am delighted to report, we won both! A fantastic weekend, capped off by picking up all three awards. Thoughts turned to how I would get home with them all, but also what these awards are a result of.

It was an honour to collect them on behalf of all the people that make St Andrews Links such a special place.

A big thanks to the Old Course team who have done an incredible job in helping us receive such prestigious awards and who work tirelessly in the background helping deliver a memorable experience for all our customers who visit the Home of Golf. Well done team St Andrews!
