Food and Beverage: Time to take stock

Our three clubhouses and The Old Pavilion cater for approximately 1000 guests each day in the height of the golfing season. Our staff are kept busy looking after each and every one of them, but they couldn’t do this without the help of a great many behind the scenes.

The busy Swilcan Lounge

My role as the Stock Controller within the department is to ensure that day to day tasks such as processing invoices, chasing up credits, liaising with suppliers on pricing and obviously counting stock are all carried out.

To give you an idea of numbers, below are some menu items we’ve sold this year. These are for the Links Clubhouse only:

  • Bacon rolls: 5500
  • Scones: 4100
  • Cups of Americano coffee: 19,000
  • Cups of Cappuccino: 9000
  • Bowls of soup: 6500
  • Macaroni cheese: 2500
  • Lobster mac and cheese: 1000
  • Cups of tea: 13,250
  • Haddock and chips: 8500
  • Burgers: 6500

Do you think people like their coffee!?

Down in the cellar where it’s not the warmest!

Away from the figures, there is also a fun side to the job. I get to taste lots of yummy food, sample delicious wines, and go to the odd food fair.

Had to check in case the wine was corked…

The whole team get together just before Christmas to enjoy a quiz night with some secret Santa fun thrown in. Occasions like these are always a good time to relax and if you’ll excuse the pun, take stock, of the busy year gone by. 2017 was most enjoyable with 2018 promising to be more of the same.

From all of us in the Food and Beverage Department at the Home of golf, we hope you have a great festive period and look forward to seeing you next year!
